Nguyen Nguyen grew up in Vietnam, immigrated to the United States in 1992, received a B.S in Engineering Physics and a B.S. in Applied Mathematics at University of Massachusetts–Boston in 1997, and completed his M.S. in Electrical Engineering at Boston University in 2001. He is currently a Systems Engineer at Raytheon. He was a Development Engineer at General Electric from 1998 to 2003. Throughout his career and academic years, he has been involved with research and development in ultrasonic signals and systems, wireless communication systems and solar energy systems. He is interested in research and development to apply science and advanced technology to engineering problems in the industries. Abstract
Energy is a fundamental need for human activities. It plays a central role in development.
However, current energy process is facing with two major problems, which are ecological consequence and limited reserve of primary energy sources. Additionally, it is not efficiently providing energy for rural areas. Solar energy is a solution for above problems because it is clean, enduring, and capable of providing energy for rural areas. Therefore research on this source of energy is necessary. Need of energy in Vietnam will increase in the future therefore research on solar energy there is even more necessary.
Energy and major global issues and rapid growth of electricity production from solar source will be will be summarized. Historical development of solar technology will be presented. Prediction about the availability of solar energy in Saigon and Boston based on previous researches will be explained. Promise and challenge of solar energy in Vietnam and around the world will be analyzed and discussed. |
