Ngo Nhan Dung is the pen name for writer Do Quy Toan, famed for his wit and his sharp observations each week on the front page of the Nguoi Viet Daily News, the oldest and largest Vietnamese-language publication in the United States.
Do has mastered the art of columnizing as he's read by immigrants coast to coast and worldwide, along with making appearances and sharing analysis in a variety of media in three languages. He is now based in California's Westminster - home to Little Saigon - where he settled after years of living in Canada following the end of the Vietnam War.
The poet and essayist also used monikers in Vietnam to hide his rigorous reporting from the government, while on political assignments. Do likes to call himself "a specialist" in all things general, and his innate curiosity drives him to seek out answers from all points of view on issues involving his homeland and Southeast Asia.
Trained in economics, he has taught the subject at McGill University in Montreal and continues to apply its theories in his work. Do also supervises the editorial and technical staff at Nguoi Viet, where he is a constant inspiration.
